Matrix Element S I2S and Gustard DACs - Paul_3605 - 04-12-2024

Hi there,

not sure if this is the right place to post but I'm struggling with my Element S... I have both Gustard x20Pro and x26Pro and cannot find a proper setting for the I2S port.
Just discovered that the x20Pro is not compatible since it needs at least 3.3V from pin 18 and the Element S does not offer this option.

I'm using it as Roon Endpoint.

I've found an "almost" suitable setting for the x26Pro.
This is the combo Type B and Mode B but works with DSD Native only, no way to play PCM... No matter which rate.
Do I need to reboot the streamer after I2S setting?

USB out works fine and so does Coax SPDIF (including DSD64 via DoP).
But in this case things are not flawless...

When I start playing any sample rate a POP/BUMP follows.
This happens even if I normalise all to the same sample rate using Roon DSP only with the very first song, then it goes obviously smooth.
Is there a way/safe workflow to avoid this?

Thanks!

Did you try M8?

Hi,
We seemed that missed your post, I'll check the pinouts and reply to you soon.

Hi Paul,
I viewed the IIS pinouts of Gustard X26Pro, the DAC only have 1 definition of IIS input via HDMI connector. While the Matrix Audio element S has 4 definitions including type A, B, C and D.
According to the definitions. When you are playing PCM files, you should use Type B of Matrix, with this setup, you'll get a wrong left and right channel of DSD.
When you are playing a DSD file, you should use Type C of Matrix. With this setup, PCM will have a wrong left and right channel.
It seems different with your report. Please confirm.
Why does your X26 Pro has multiple of IIS definitions?
